Who we are

The Cree School Board was established in 1978 as a result of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement. Its purpose is to serve the Cree living in Eeyou Istchee and to empower us to take control of our own education system as well as to protect our language, culture, and traditional pursuits.

Today, we teach almost 5,000 students in four inland and five coastal Eeyouch communities. In addition, we offer upgrading and vocational training to hundreds of adults in Eeyou Istchee, and social and financial support to students who pursue post-secondary education outside the Cree Nation.
