Teaching at the Cree School Board

Teaching at the Cree School Board is both rewarding and challenging. Our schools, located in nine communities, serve more than 4,600 students in Cree, English, and French. We employ more than 400 teachers and welcome newcomers from our local communities as around the world!

Are you

  • Passionate about teaching?
  • Motivated to invest in the classroom?
  • Educated with a Bachelor’s degree and Canadian teaching certification?

We are accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year.

We have openings in all nine of our picturesque Cree Communities in the James Bay region of northern Quebec. Our warm, friendly and well-serviced communities allow for a relaxed pace and superb work-life balance.

Openings in our English and French schools (bilingualism is not required) may be available in the following fields:

  • Primary/Secondary Teachers
  • Adult Education Teachers
  • Mathematics, Sciences, Special Education, Visual arts, Social Sciences, Physical Education

Our teachers particularly enjoy working at the CSB because of:

  • Smaller classroom sizes
  • Innovative school programming
  • Cree culture
  • Welcoming communities
  • Pace of life
  • Proximity to nature

Teaching Certification in Quebec

We welcome teachers who are passionate about teaching and who hold a Bachelor’s degree and a valid Quebec teaching license (brevet) or other Canadian teaching qualification. Teachers with certification from other provinces can easily apply for a Quebec license and have access to more benefits.

Student Teacher Placements

Every year, the Cree School Board hosts student-teachers to complete their practicum during year four of their Bachelor of Education. One of our associate teachers will share their knowledge and best practices in teaching in an Indigenous setting. Discuss with the person responsible for internships at your university and mention your interest in the CSB and one of our schools.
