Welcome message from school principal
Kwey!
It is with pleasure that I welcome you to our Voyageur Memorial Elementary School Page. I am Ashley MacPherson, the Principal at Voyageur Memorial Elementary School. Our school’s focus is on helping students reach their full academic potential while instilling the Cree Identity. Cree values are at the core of everything we do and assist us to help our students grow academically, physically, and socially in a happy, safe and secure environment.
We have a dedicated staff of caring professionals who are committed to working with the parents, community and entities toward the success of all the children at Voyageur Memorial Elementary School.
I encourage parents to participate in school activities and special occasions as well as volunteer in your child’s classroom as your schedule allows.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at

Roots of Empathy
Roots of Empathy is an international organization that teaches children ages 5 to 13 about empathy and emotional literacy through evidence-based classroom activities.
A local baby and caregiver visit the classroom regularly, while a teacher trained as a Roots of Empathy "coach" guides students to learn from the infant. The students watch the baby grow, and learn how to identify the baby's emotional responses, thus building their own emotional competence.
Soccer
Our Soccer Team started in September 2019 under the direction of teacher Olivia Lusterio-Adler who played for McGill Varsity Soccer Team for 4 years. The team is looking at organizing soccer tournaments within iiyiyiu aschii this Spring.
Safe Haven
Our Safe Haven room began in February 2019 and is a safe calming space to receive students who need a quiet place to work, an adult to talk to, or a small break from the classroom to refocus and motivate them.
Homework Help
RTI
Our school runs on a Response to Intervention model. The RTI model ensures that students are meeting specific learning targets and that there are interventions/supports in place for those students struggling to meet specific targets and/or extension activities planned for those students who have already mastered the targets.
SFA
SNAP
Our students benefit from a custom-designed behavioural enrichment program. SNAP (Stop Now and Plan) teaches students to think through the consequences of their actions.
Transportation
YES
Students whose could benefit from one-on-one support outside the classroom are given the alternative to spend 3 to 5 days in this off-site program.
Kindergarten
We offer Pre-K and Kindergarten programming to students ages 4 and 5 in our Kindergarten building across the street from the elementary school.
Vision
Voyageur Memorial School provides knowledge that respects our past, helps us deal with today and prepares us for tomorrow.
