General education programs are made just for you, based on a personal learning plan.

If you're a full-time student, you'll spend at least 20 hours a week on your courses.

You can take exams throughout the year.

General education is offered in each community during the school year (September to June). Find out which courses are available in your community by visiting the community pages listed below. You can also email for more information.

Earn Your High School Diploma

SAES offers a friendly and culturally rooted environment for adult students returning to school. Choose the courses you want to take and work one-on-one with your teacher to reach your goals.

Get Ready for the Workforce

Build work and life skills with our "Socio-vocational Integration" (SVI) program. In select communities, SVI uses community work placements and class activities to help students improve their skills.

Continue Your Education

Need courses for a job training or post-secondary program? We'll help you complete the courses you need to reach your goals.

Improve Your Language and Literacy

Learn to read, write, or speak a language with adult education! SAES offers a variety of options for all learners, including Pre-Secondary, Literacy, and Conversational Cree and French courses.

What do you need to graduate?

To get your high school diploma, you need to earn at least 54 credits in Secondary 4 and 5. At least 20 of these credits must be in Secondary 5.

These 54 credits must include:

  • 12 credits in the main language, with at least 6 at the Secondary 5 level
  • 8 credits in a second language, with at least 4 at the Secondary 5 level
  • 4 credits in Social Sciences at the Secondary 4 or 5 level
  • 8 credits in Math, Science, and Technology, with at least 4 in Math

You can't have more than 36 credits in the main and second languages combined.
