Welcome message from school principal
Dear parents/guardians and Community members,
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to come and explore our newly created Waapihtiiwewan School Webpage. As a school community, we believe in the holistic approach when it comes to education and teaching. This can only be achieved through a collaborative approach and constant communication with the families. Your support is an essential pillar in your child’s journey. You will find here all the news and information that we want to share with you (information on programs, events, calendars, school or class closures, bus cancellations, etc.)
‘Alone it is difficult; together it is possible’.
MikwChiyâm is a year-long arts program for high school students that brings professional artists into schools to work alongside students and teachers in creative, hands-on workshops.
Designed by the Cree School Board, the program uses music, visual arts, spoken word, film, art appreciation activities, and more to encourage self-expression and strengthen connections to culture and community. At the end of each residency, a celebration is held to showcase students’ achievements as they share their work with family and community members.
For students, MikwChiyâm is more than an art class — it’s a space to explore who they are, find their voice, and develop skills that support personal growth and academic success.
For parents and caregivers, it’s a meaningful way to keep youth engaged in school by giving them a reason to attend and be proud of what they create.
By making school a place where students feel seen, heard, and inspired, MikwChiyâm helps them stay in school, graduate, and dream bigger.
