Welcome Message
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the Maquatua Eeyou School website. Here at MES, our team of dedicated staff values our relationship with parents/guardians and the community as a whole. Our website was created with this relationship in mind to serve as a tool to further open lines of communication and keep everyone informed of the great things happening in your school. Here, you will be to access quickly school calendars, schedules, and staff contact information as well as to keep abreast of important announcements regarding school closures, bus cancellations and special events. Please take a look around the site and feel free to contact us with your feedback or for information.

To encourage equal focus on academics and athletics, MES offers the BEAR program in collaboration with Wemindji Minor Sports.
All minor sports athletes are expected to meet BEAR (Behaviour, Effort, Attendance and Respect) expectations each and every day, both in sport and in school in order to remain eligible for league and tournament play.
MikwChiyâm is a year-long arts program that brings professional artists into schools to work alongside students and teachers in creative, hands-on workshops.
Designed by the Cree School Board, the program uses music, visual arts, spoken word, film, art appreciation activities, and more to encourage self-expression and strengthen connections to culture and community. At the end of each residency, a celebration is held to showcase students’ achievements as they share their work with family and community members.
For students, MikwChiyâm is more than an art class — it’s a space to explore who they are, find their voice, and develop skills that support personal growth and academic success.
For parents and caregivers, it’s a meaningful way to keep youth engaged in school by giving them a reason to attend and be proud of what they create.
By making school a place where students feel seen, heard, and inspired, MikwChiyâm helps them stay in school, graduate, and dream bigger.
