Regional General Assembly (RGA)

Throughout history, we have come together in assembly to share stories and culture, to review recent events, and to make important decisions.

In fact, some of the most important decisions are taken as a group, after stories are shared, and opinions considered. 

It is in that spirit that the Cree School Board implemented its Regional General Assembly in 2016 in an effort to engage community members as partners in education.

Today, a Regional General Assembly of Cree School Board partners is held biennally. The Regional General Assembly responds to a variety of purposes, from engaging members of iiyiyiu aschii in the review and shaping of their education.

The Regional General Assembly also is an opportunity to connect, engage, and inform on matters respecting education as well as an opportunity for the Cree School Board to report on its strategic directions and recent education activities.

Chisasibi

November 6-7, 2024

The 5th Cree School Board General Assembly will take place on November 6-7, 2024 in Chisasibi. The theme of this event is ᒥᐧᔮᔨᑖᑯᓐ ᐋ ᐧᐄᒋᐦᐄᑎᓈᓂᐧᐃᒡ miywaayitaakun aa wiichihiitinaaniwich.

The 4th Cree School Board General Assembly & Community Tour hosted in all communities on various dates from October 2022 to February 2023. The theme of this event was “Continuing Our Iiyiyiu Education Journey” (ᐋᔮᓂᔅᒑ ᒋᐱᒧᐦᑖᓈᓂᐤ ᒋᑎᐄᔨᔨᐅᒋᔅᑯᑎᒫᒑᐧᐃᓂᐤ).

February 26-27, 2020

The 3rd Cree School Board General Assembly took place on February 26-27, 2020, in the Cree Nation of Oujé-Bougoumou. The theme of this event was “Let’s Strengthen Cree Language and Culture.”

3rd Regional Assembly on Education draws close to 200 delegates

2018

Eastmain

June 5-6, 2018

The 2018 Regional General Assembly (RGA)— under the theme Aanische ishi pimuhtitaataao iiyiyuu/iinuu chiskutamaachewin (Continuing our Journey for Cree Education) — has taken place on June 5-6, 2018 and hosted jointly with the community of Eastmain.

The Cree School Board also intends to officially celebrate its 40th anniversary during this event.

2016

Mistissini

November 8-9, 2016

The 2016 Regional General Assembly provided an opportunity for members of the Cree Nation to learn more about the 2016-2021 Strategic Action Plan. Stakeholders from 10 Cree communities were able to listen to presentations from department directors. Participants from within and outside of the School Board responded to the Strategic Themes and Key Initiatives, adding their questions and experiences to refine our understanding.

This meaningful dialogue resulted in 15 Calls-to-Action for the Youth, Adult, and Post-Secondary sectors. Meetings like this allow us all to share our goals, strategies, and concerns so we can move forward together.
