Digital Learning Platforms

At the Cree School Board, some teachers may use digital learning platforms as a classroom support tool.

Digital learning platforms are online educational tools and environments, such as apps, websites, or software, that allow students to access learning materials, complete activities, and engage with lessons through technology.

These safe and secure apps and programs are approved and licensed by the Cree School Board. Teachers use them to support learning in a fun and age-appropriate way, while helping students build technology skills for today’s world.

Student Personal Information on Digital Learning Platforms

How are platforms selected and monitored?

Before any platform is authorized for use in the classroom, it is carefully reviewed to ensure that it:

  • Follows applicable laws and regulations
  • Meets strong security and privacy standards
  • Uses only the personal information that is truly needed for the platform to function
  • Does not sell or use student information for marketing
  • Does not use identifiable student information to train Artificial Intelligence systems
  • Respects CSB values

Approved platforms are monitored on an ongoing basis. Any platform that no longer meets these standards is removed or suspended.

What student information may be used?

The following student personal information may be used to create accounts and to provide access to the platforms:

  • Student first and last name
  • School email address and password
  • School, grade level, and homeroom group

The CSB will never share sensitive information with digital learning platforms, such as students’ date of birth, permanent code, or medical information.

Why is this information needed?

This information is used strictly to:

  • Create student accounts
  • Allow students to log in securely
  • Assign students to the correct teacher(s) and class(es) so they can access relevant content

What are parents and guardians rights?

As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:

  • Request details on what information is collected and how it may be used
  • Request that your child’s personal information not be used by platforms

Please note that this choice is about personal information being used, not about your child using technology as a learning tool.

Your child will continue to receive educational services even if consent is withdrawn. However, it will affect certain learning opportunities and limit access to some platforms that are part of the learning program.

If you have questions or want to withdraw consent, please contact your school principal.
