Chisasibi hosts Regional Science Fair

The Regional Science Fair with about 60 students from around iiyiyiu aschii gathered for a science project competition with the theme of Science in Action with Indigenous Peoples. The science fair took place on February 23, 2023 at James Bay Eeyou School in Chisasibi.

Passing of Catherine Boisvert Valencia

The Cree School Board mourns the passing of the late Catherine Boisvert Valencia on February 14, 2023. Catherine was a passionate teacher who taught students in Oujé-Bougoumou. She started working as a replacement teacher (2014-2015), and then a full-time teacher (2015-2022) at the Waapihtiiwewan School.

“Catherine was a dedicated teacher to our team and students, always energetic and vibrant,” said Waapihtiiwewan School, “She will be dearly missed by all and forever in our hearts.”

Recognition of Willie Ottereyes

We are sad to hear about the passing of a long-time member of the Cree School Board family, Willie Ottereyes.

Willie was apart of the Cree School Board family for around 33 years. He held many roles in the communities of Mistissini and Waswanipi for the CSB. He was a teacher, a vice-principal, principal, Coordinator of Adult Education, Community Education Administrator and also the first Centre Director for the Sabtuan Regional Vocational Training Centre in Waswanipi. We honour his contribution to Eeyou Education and to the Cree School Board.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

CSB Celebrates the Success of the Special Needs Symposium

The event was hosted by the Cree School Board. The focus was on providing a forum for parents and caregivers to connect with one another through a series of workshops, presentations, and opportunities for dialogue.

The Cree School Board hosted the Special Needs Symposium for Parents and Caregivers in Gatineau, QC from November 29 to December 1, 2022, in collaboration with the Cree Board of Health and Social Services and the Cree Nation Government, under the theme “Stronger Together” ᒫᒨ ᒪᔥᑰᑳᐴᑖᐤ.

Community Tour Resumes for the 4th Regional General Assembly

The Cree School Board began its Community Tour for the 4th Regional General Assembly in October 2022, visiting majority of your schools and communities around Eeyou Istchee to discuss the theme “Continuing Our Iiyiyiu Education Journey.”

The biennial Regional General Assembly will travel to the remaining communities that we were unable to visit in October. The following dates have been rescheduled for Whapmagoostui, Oujé-Bougoumou, and Waswanipi:

  • Tuesday, January 17, 2023 - Whapmagoostui
  • Wednesday, January 18, 2023 - Oujé-Bougoumou
  • Thursday, January 19, 2023 - Waswanipi
