Camp inspires collaboration

Grade 5 and 6 students took some of their first steps on the path to leadership at a weekend camp May 17 to 21 in Waswanipi.

Twenty-nine students from Waskaganish, Nemaska, Mistissini, and Waswanipi were chosen for their role in leadership at their respective schools, and their participation in student council and school-based Youth Fusion activities.

"We heard expressions of 'I love you' all throughout the camp."

Speaking up! Students make case for language

The mood in the Mitchuap Celebration Hall in Chisasibi was taut with friendly competition the evening of April 16, 2019, as students poured over their cue cards in preparation for their big moment at the podium. The theme for the 2019 CSB Regional Public Speaking Contest, hosted this year by James Bay Eeyou School, was "Honouring the International Year of Indigenous Languages."

"Our trip to Kuujjuaq"

Editor's Note: A delegation of students traveled to Kuujjuaq in March to compete in the Quebec Aboriginal Science Fair. Two of those students won first place among Grade 6 contestants. Here is their story.


On February 14, 2019, we won first place at the regional science fair in Waaskaganish and had the chance to go to the provincial science fair in Kuujjuaq on March 27-28, 2019.
