In Memory of Aliou Koné
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our friend and colleague, Aliou Koné. He will forever be known as a humble and generous person who truly enjoyed his work at the school board. We are grateful to have benefited from this dedication as well of his appreciation of Cree culture and way of life.
Aliou first joined the school board as a secondary school teacher in 2001. He achieved his goal of becoming a computer technician when he began working with the CSB IT department in 2020 and followed by Sabtuan Adult Education Services in 2021. In the latter, he provided services to adult education staff and students in nearly every community. He was a frequent visitor at our centres in Waskaganish and Wemindji where he helped with installations following the handover of these buildings from the Cree Nation Government to the Cree School Board.
Prior to his employment at the Cree School Board, Aliou worked in various capacities for the Cree Nation but he felt most at home in the community of Oujé-Bougoumou. He became a cherished friend to many during those years and longed to return one day. His presence will be greatly missed by his adoptive Wapachee, Shecapio-Blacksmith, and Shecapio families.
On behalf of the Cree School Board, we would like to extend the most sincere condolences to Aliou’s friends, colleagues, and family in Canada and the Ivory Coast.
