Cree School Board Pays Tribute to Former Educator Frances Blackned Visitor

We are sad to learn of the passing of a long-time member of the Cree School Board family, Frances Blackned Visitor on Sunday, March 24, 2024. Frances was a dedicated educator and committed advocate of the Cree language whose passion for teaching spanned 38 years with the Cree School Board. Her commitment to empowering students and unwavering dedication to excellence have inspired generations of Eeyou/Eenou.

Frances worked from a deep love for our children, a belief in the potential of our students, and a commitment to ensuring that our language and our culture is maintained into the future. Her dedication, care and determination inspired many who looked up to her as mentor, teacher, consultant, advocate for Eeyou heritage, colleague, and friend. We are grateful for the gift of her contributions which have benefited and will continue to benefit generations of Eeyou children.
– Dr. Sarah Pash, Chairperson, Cree School Board

We offer our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones.
