Cree School Board Mourns the Passing of Clarence Tomatuk

We are sad to learn of the passing of a long-time member of the Cree School Board family, Clarence Tomatuk on August 11, 2024 in Wemindji.

Clarence was a tireless advocate for education. He served in various roles within the Cree School Board, dedicating over 33 years to advancing iiyiyiu education. From his early days as a junior manager to his eventual position as the Director of Education Services for the Youth Sector, he worked relentlessly to improve opportunities for iiyiyiu students.

Before retiring, he served Wemindji as the Community Education Administrator. After retiring, Clarence continued to serve his community as a school commissioner from 2015 to 2018, demonstrating his commitment to making a difference in the lives of those around him. He understood the importance of community and worked tirelessly to foster a better future for the iiyiyiu itiskaanaasuwin.
