About the program
The Master of Arts In Educaton and Society (non-thesis) program consists of coursework and includes two 6-credit projects. The M.A non-thesis program is more appropriate if you wish to pursue the MA alongside full-time work or are primarily pursuing the degree for career growth in the field of education.
Admission Criteria
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- JBNQA Beneficiary
- Possess an undergraduate degree.
- The minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is 3.0 out of a possible 4.0, or a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.2 out of 4.0 in the last two years of full-time studies.

Step 1 – Gather and Complete
To pre-apply for the Master of Arts program you will need to have ready:
JBNQA Beneficiary Number
Also known as “Cree beneficiary number” – contact your band office if you are unsure of your number
University Transcript
A copy of your unofficial transcripts from ALL previous university level studies (undergraduate and graduate). Official transcripts are required after students are officially admitted to the program.
Record of Past or Current Employement
A current working CV
Letter of Intent
A 1-2 page Personal Statement (Letter of Intent), specifying relevant academic and professional experience, particularly experience related to education. (max 2 pages - Double Spaced, Times New Roman 12 font, 1 inch margins)
Once you have these four items completed, you can move on to Step 2. Do not proceed to Step 2 without them on hand.
Step 2 – Filling out Pre-Application Form
Complete all sections of the form as requested.
- Where you are asked to upload your transcript, please do so.
- You can copy/paste or upload your Record of Past or Current Employement where indicated.
- You can copy/paste or upload your Letter of Intent directly onto the form where indicated.
- Ensure that you have filled in all the information required.
You will receive an email in mid September indicating whether or not you have been accepted to apply to McGill for the Master of Arts in Education and Society (non-thesis) for the Winter 2026 semester.
