This 60-credit program provides an opportunity for Cree people to become qualified teachers in Cree as the language of instruction.


The program is offered full time in Cree communities in iiyiyiu aschii in collaboration with McGill University. Quebec graduates of the program receive Quebec Ministère de l’Éducation certification to teach at the elementary school level in Indigenous schools.

  • 23 years old OR cégep diploma holder
  • Fluent in Cree
  • Cree beneficiary (living in the Cree communities)

Course Delivery

The Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) works collaboratively to structure the course delivery method with the partner, determining sequence of courses, location and dates. The program is customized to meet McGill requirements as well as the partner’s needs.

Course delivery methods include:

  • in-person instruction;
  • blended courses using technology for follow up and support;
  • community-based courses;
  • courses on McGill campus.

The unique course delivery method focuses on students’ learning and well-being.
