Time Commitment
- Students will complete six semesters (15 credits/semester), beginning in August 2025 and ending in April 2028, if they are registered full time.
- For the students who will register part time, it will be according to the number of courses they will take by semester.

Admission Criteria
- The program is open to adults (23 years of age or older) out of school of at least 5 years and to students already possessing a college diploma or working towards obtaining it. Two courses in social sciences could be asked as prerequisites.
- Students who have studied social work or are currently studying in the field at college level may have transferable credits.

Other college’s or university’s credits and RAC (Recognition of Acquired Competencies) acknowledgement could be relevant.

Step 1 – Gather and Complete
To pre-apply to the Bachelor of Social Work you will need to have ready:

Also known as “Cree beneficiary number” – contact your band office if you are unsure of your number.
Latest School Transcript
- A scan/photograph of your last official school transcript to upload into the application form – this can be done by taking a photo of the document with your phone or by using a scanner.
- Your secondary school report card(s) can be obtained from the school board you attended.
- Transcripts issued by the Ministry of Education of Quebec can be requested through our Administrative Services.
Record of Relevant Past Experience
In Chronological Order. For each experience you will need to include:
- Name & address of organization and name of supervisor or employer & phone number
- Position Held
- 3 main responsibilities relevant to social work
- From when to when (year, months, etc.)
- Paid or volunteer
- Total hours
Interest and Motivation Statement
- Describe why you are interested in becoming a social worker and how aspects of your own identity and/or past experiences (personal, academic, volunteer and/or work) have contributed to your interest in social work.
- Reflect on what you have learned from these past experiences that make you a good candidate for social work.
- If you have worked in other fields/disciplines, please share the reasons for this change.
Once you have these four pieces completed, you can move onto Step 2. Do not move onto Step 2 without them on hand.
Step 2 – Filling out Pre-Application Form
Complete all sections of the form as requested.
- Where you are asked to upload your school transcript, please do so.
- You can copy/paste or upload your Record of Relevant Past Experience where indicated.
- You can copy/paste or upload your Interest and Motivation Statement directly onto the form where indicated.
- Ensure that you have filled in all the information required.
You will receive an email in early April indicating whether or not you have been accepted to apply to McGill for the Bachelor of Social Work for the Fall 2025 semester.
Step 3 – McGill Bachelor of Social Work Application
Opening in April
